The ultimate measure of sustainability is to be self-sustaining long term, whilst also being inter-dependent with other systems (including natural systems)
Sustainability Principles
Closed System Principles
The Closed System methodology is based on the understanding that Nature provides a proven systemic model for sustainability.

It mirrors Nature’s ability to sustain itself through control and management of its various components, each of which is an individual system within the larger systemic whole.

It does this through each system’s ability to defend itself by closing its borders to ‘predators’ and other adverse elements while depending on the over-arching system to survive.

Aligning human behaviour with eco-system behaviour gives a solid easily observable method of determining sustainable human behaviour. The essential eco-system behaviours are represented in the ten principles of The Closed System.

Aligning with the Closed System principles provides a legitimate way for each system (individual or human enterprise) to interact responsibly with others while contributing to the good of the system as a whole. This then dictates what each controls and the way it manages its dependencies with other systems in order to remain sustainable.
